Abstract

A total of 216 dual-purpose bovines were tested in eight (8) properties for the purpose of determining the prevalence of leptospirosis in each season (rain and dry) of Las Yaguas sector, Lara State. For in each season it was carried out two samples of blood serum for each animal in order to determine the seroreactionary to leptospira by the technique of microscopic agglutination. A total of 250 and 182 samples of blood serum were processed for rain and dry season, respectively, using the serovars: icterohaemorrhagiae, canicola, pomona, grippotyphosa, hardjo and hebdomadis. The data were analyzed through not parameter test with the computer program Epi-5. The prevalence was significantly higher (P<.05) in the rainy season. The prevalence showed a significant correlation (P<.05) for the serovar hardjo in the rain and dry season with the serovar hebdomadis. Between the two (2) serovars hardjo and hebdomadis existed a highly significant correlation (P<.01), existing a higher prevalence for the serovar hardjo during the rainy time.
