Abstract

The world is undergoing substantial changes as a result of increasing globalization, unprecedented economic growth and democratization. Sachs (2006) estimates that the gross domestic product of the world economy is of the order of 60 trillion dollars. Population growth and the development model followed by many countries is creating tremendous pressure on the environment and the use of natural resources, which creates substantial problems and, at the same time, opportunities for agriculture in general and especially for agriculture practiced in the Developing countries. It is in this context that this article aims to present global trends in population growth, income distribution and its impact on agriculture in developing countries to identify some challenges and opportunities and show some successful examples of capturing some of these opportunities, especially in Peru.
