Abstract

The objective of this work, which completes the study of Tornquist (Argentina), was the design of improved models based on available technology and soil conservaron. Monte Cario programming was applied and 10 models were chosen for each área ( 1 , 2 and 3). Each model shows the composition of the included activities and the total gross margin (TGM). Furthermore, the f o l l o w i n g parameters were calculated: stocking rate (cow equivalent/ livestock ha), beef production (kg/ livestock ha), stock efficiency (%), crop production GM ($/ha), livestock production GM ($/ha), and TGM ($/ha). Mean histórica! prices of 1960 were used. Means of livestock parameters and TGM were, in área 1: 0.6, 105.2, 52.0, and 12.6; in área 2: 0.52, 94.9, 53.4, and 10.8; and in área 3: 0.46, 83.2, 52.6, and 14.7, respectively. The differences of TGM within and among áreas were due to the proportion of land dedicated to agriculture, the productive potentials, and the fact that agricultural GM was greater than livestock GM. The model indeces were higher than those of the real systems, except for stocking rate which was similar. It can be concluded that although the method chooses the activities at random, their participation in the best models also depended on the physical components. Furthermore, the transcendency of GM in Monte Cario and its limítations as a partial índex, suggest that its correlation with a global índex, such as profit, should be determined.
