Abstract

It was evaluated efficacy of a disinfectant composed by citric extracts against avian coccidiosis, in an in vitro test and a floor-pen trial with broilers. It were used 288 chickens of 1 d age distributed at ramdon in 6 groups (4 replicates each one). Chickens were medicated in drink water at the doses: disinfectant (25 %) = 2 to 4 mL/ 10 L (I, II , III) and amprolium (98 %)= 2 to 4g/10 L (IV). Parasite challenge was done individually to 10 d age (I,II,III,IV y V). Stadistical analisis were development for ANOVA and median comparison test (a = .01). There were not visible at light microscopy, morphological and structural differences in oocysts that were previous treated with disinfectant, 6 hours before their inoculation to chickens. Lesion score and index among groups were: in upper intestine (V=IV=I*>III*II*>VI), middle (V=IV**>I*>II=III=VI) and caecal region (V*>III=II**>I=IV=VI), without lesions in lower intestine. It were observed highly differences in oocysts production and index in groups V***>IV**>II*>Ins>III, and not among I and III. There were not differences among groups in GDP, greatest GDP were obtained in order: V, I, IV, III, II and VI (42.075 g; 39.505 g; 39.501 g; 39.380 g; 37.875 g, 37.609 g, respectively). There were not differences in feed consumption and feed convertion. General mortality was 0.69 % (2/288) and due coccidiosis was 4.16 % (2/48) in group II only. It were observed differences in anticoccidial index, being greater in I (188) and III (183) in comparison to IV (174) and II (158), also in productivity index, being greater in V>I=IV>III*>VI*>II (1.890; 1.717; 1.717; 1.690; 1.570, 1.246). The disinfectant composed by citric extracts had moderate efficacy in avian coccidiosis control, and it could be an alternative method.
