SE 14. Characterization of dual purpose production system in Los Cerritos village, Chiquimulilla, Guatemala

Abstract

To characterize the double purpose system in Los Cerritos, Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa, Guatemala, was made this work in a ranch with 161 cows at milking and a Creole, Milking Gyr, Red Holstein and Black Holstein ratial conformation. The investigation was 24 months in duration, begining in January 1992 and finishing in December 1993. The ranch was visited weekely. Information was recovered from monthly production registers and statisticaly analyzed by means of SAS. A semi-intensive production system was detected with pastures land, finishing food and gramineous pastures with 2.03 AU/ha of stocking rate. 50.31 % of herd in production was among 1455 to 2545 kg of lactated milk and lactation length of 367.47 ± 34.19 days.
