SA 08. Serum haematological survey in bovine tripanosensitiveness of two agroecological units of Aroa valley

Abstract

This work aims at contributing to the knowledge of trypanosomosis epidemiology in bovines. In order to determine the prevalence and distribution of bovine trypanosomiasis in Aroa valley, Venezuela. Serum and blood samples from farms located in two agro-ecological units (U.A.) were tested by indirect immunofluorescence and hematocrit technique respectively. In the A.U. ³Eˇ248 and ³Iˇ61 36.4 % and 40.2 % were positive reactors respectively. Results showed that trypanosomal infection is widespread throughout the two A.U. and the cattle of all ages, types of exploitation and breeds are affected, particularly Brown Swiss crossbred.
