Ovarian morphometry, corpus luteum and progesterone concentration during pregnancy in the guinea pig
Abstract
The cuy (Cavia porcellus) is an animal recognized as a biomodel in several gestational experiments, which involves the development of the luteal body (CL) as a transitory glandular structure, which is essential for the maintenance of pregnancy in its first third through it progesterone (Shaw et al., 2018). This ovarian structure is experiencing a process of regression, characterized by a decrease in functionality (Vallcaneras et al., 2022). Despite the initial importance of CL and progesterone (P4) in pregnancy, the studies carried out in the lab are insufficient to understand its functioning in the initial stage of pregnancy, which is why it is necessary to characterize the development of CL and plasma P4 concentration in the first 5 weeks of guinea pig pregnancy. As previously stated, I work with the objective of establishing the morphometric characteristics of the ovary, luteal body and progesterone concentration in the first 35 days of guinea pig pregnancy.
