Introducción
El muestreo dependió de factores como el permiso
por parte de los Consejos comunitarios locales y
autoridades indígenas, previa socialización del
proyecto, las condiciones de orden público de cada
zona y la presencia de animales con biotipo criollo en
cada predio. En Chocó , las muestras fueron obtenidas
en condiciones clima cálido, intertropical lluvioso,
mientras que los sitios de muestreo en Cauca y
Nariño, estaban ubicados en cercanía a la Cordillera
Occidental, en clima templado y frío.
Animales. S e tomó una muestra aleatoria de 83
cerdos mayores de ocho meses, según referencias d el
productor, en su mayoría reproductores,41
procedentes del departamento del Chocó (18 machos y
23 hembras), 19 del departamento del Cauca (4
machos y 15 hembras) y 23 del departamento de
Nariño (11 machos y 12 hembras). En el departamento
del Valle del Cauca, solo se logró obtener info rm ac ió n
de un individuo, razón por la cual dicho
departamento no fue incluido en el análisis.
Variables evaluadas. Mediante el uso de instrumentos
como hipómetro artesanal, cinta métric a inextensible y
compás de brocas artesanal, se obtuvieron 14 variables
zoométricas correspond ientes a Alzadas, a la cruz
(ALC= distancia vertical desde el suelo hasta el punto
más culminante de la cruz) y a la grupa (ALG=
Distancia vertical desde el suelo hasta el punto más
culminante de las tuberosidades internas del íleon);
Diámetro longitudinal (DL= D is tanc ia entre el punto
más craneal y lateral de la articulación escápulo-
humeral y el punto más caudal de la tuberosidad
isquiática); Longitudes, de frente (LF= distancia entre
la protuberancia occipital externa y la sutura fronto
nasal), de hocico (LH=desde la sutura frontonasal
hasta la punta del hocico), de oreja (LO= Distancia
entre el punto central de la base de la oreja y el vértice
de la misma) y de grupa (LG= Distancia entre la
tuberosidad ilíaca externa y la tuberosidad isquiática);
Anchuras, de cabeza (ANC= Máxima distancia entre
las dos órbitas ), de oreja (AO= Distancia en la base
entre ambos bordes de la oreja), de gr upa (ANG=
Máxima distancia entre las dos tuberosidades ilíacas
El Pacífico colombiano se caracteriza por una gran
riqueza natural y alta biodiversidad, que contrastan
con la influencia de la pobreza y la desigualdad
(Galvis et al., 2016). El territorio ha sido en gran parte
inexplorado en términos d e algunos de los recursos
zoogenéticos que alberga, tal es el caso de los cerdos
criollos, linajes o razas formadas a partir de los
planteles originales llegados hace más de 500 años
desde la llegada de los colonizadores a América, que
por la acción constante de la selección natural, fueron
adaptadas a las condiciones ambientales particulares
de la región (Carpinetti et al., 2016), por lo cual
constituyen en la actualidad el fundamento de su
seguridad alimentaria y son además una importante
fuente de ahorro para muchas comunidad es rurales
apartadas y pobres.
Al igual que en otros países latinoamericanos, en
Colombia los cerdos locales han sido subvalorados,
hoyse reconocen diferentes tipos de cerdo criollo
distribuidos en varias regiones del país, como son
Sampedreño, S antand ereano , Curí, C as co de mula y
Zungo (Espinosa y Ly, 2015; Jiménez et al., 2017;
Ocampo et al., 2019); sin embargo, según Food and
Agriculture Organization (2001), estos en muchos
casos han sido explotados de manera tradicional, sin
inversiones mayores de tiempo, recursos y tecnología,
y se carece de estudios que permitan conocer su
verdadero potencial genético y su capac idad
productiva. Es necesario c o nsid erar que su aparente
baja productividad biológica es compensada por
aspectos como un bajo consumo de agua, reciclado de
desechos y subproductos, mínima competencia con
cultivos destinados a la alimentación humana,
posibilidades de uso de mano de obra familiar
campesina para una producción con mínimos insumos
externos costosos y generación de carne sin residuales
de agroquímicos (Espinosa y Ly, 2015).
Un primer paso para conocer este tipo de recursos
genéticos es determinar sus características
morfológicas, aspecto a tener en cuenta para la
identificación de las razas y generar información sobre
su conformació n física y sus cualidades funcionales.
Para la identificación de grupos étnicos es importante
tanto la descripción de faneras (color de capa, de piel,
presencia de pelos, forma de orejas, color de pezuñas,
etc.), como las medidas zoométricas que permiten
establecer estándares de la forma del cuerpo del
animal (Linares et al., 2011), constituyendo un
elemento de trabajo importante para definir una
población y para marcar tendencias prod uct iv as o
deficiencias zootécnicas (Casanova, 2009; Cattáneo et
al., 2014).
El o bj etiv o de es te trabajo fue caracterizar
morfológicamente una población de porcinos criollos
procedentesde sistemas tradicionales de producción en
la región Pacífica colo m biana, como paso inicial para
su identificación y posible reconocimiento como raza.
