Abstract

The importance of reproduction to improve the productivity of bovine livestock is an established concept. In the context of tropical livestock production, advances in reproductive physiology enable the availability of alternative technologies aimed at improving bovine reproductive performance. Moreover, crosses of Bos taurus x Bos indicus can yield an animal with greater adaptability to tropical conditions and rapid progress in improving animal quality is possible by application of technologies such as embryo transfer and in vitro fertilization using sexed semen. Further improving management schemes, including temporary weaning to reinitiate maternal ovarian activity and better diets, should help to further improve the reproductive performance of crossbred cattle.
