Abstract

In order to determine the apparent digestibility of pijiguao meal (Bactris gasipaes H. B. K.), a trial was conducted using 10 castrated male pigs with a live weight of 35 kg, they were prepared for the assay with an ileorectal anastomosis and were placed on a latin square 5 x 5 treatments design, replicated for 50 days (8 for adaptation to cages and preparation for surgery, seven for recovery; and for each periods, seven of adaptation diet and sampling). The treatments were: Basic diet (BD), BD + 10 % pijiguao (P), BD+ 20 % P, BD + 30 % P and BD + 40 % P. The wet ration was administered at rate of 6 % of the PV0.75 in two feed rations. The sampling of the ileal digesta was performed every four hours for 48 hours. The digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and energy were not affected with the adition of pijiguao meal (PM) in the diets, pijiguao digestible energy was about 3 810 Kcal per kg of dry matter. It was concluded, that pijiguao constitutes a source of energy and an inclusion rate of 40 % can be used in pig rations.
