NR 18. Evaluation of brewers wet grains supplementation on milk production in crossbred Holstein dairy cows

Abstract

A trial was carried out with twelve crossbred Holstein cows (95 ± 37 nursing days and 7.25 ± 2.17 kg milk/ cow/day) in a 4 x 4 latin switch back square design, where the cows formed four groups, with four periods of evaluation; each period consisted of three weeks, all groups were grazing on Brachiaria humidicola, the variation was produced in the supplementation, with four rations (A: 2.0 kg from brewers wet grains, (B.W.G.), B: 2.5 kg of commercial concentrate (C.C.), C: 9.0 kg of B.W.G. and D: 18.0 kg of B.W.G.). In milk production only significant diferencies were observed (P<.05) between the D and B ration, but based on the Duncan test, all the rations with B.W.G. manifested higher production that the ration of C.C.; on the other hand the A ration reflected a larger production of milk than the B ration, due to that the first, contributed a quantity of additional protein in the water that formed part of this ration, introducing a better rumen degradibility.
